July 13, 2009

I did this last night. Looking towards the woods--not a very interesting scene but the shadow falling across the wheat and soy beans caught my eye. I was thinking of all those 5" x 7"s Marc did and wanted to see if I could make something out of this. I toned my panel with a muddy reddish color, painted in the placement of the major dark shapes and started adding color.

  1. Oh, this is lovely! My only questions is, did the shadows really stretch that far? And what
are those shadows on the far right? They look like shadows of columnar cedars, but I don't see any in the trees there in the background. Otherwise, I think this study is a keeper in its own right. -- Jeanne

  2. Thanks Jeanne,
Yes the shadows stretched that far--that was what I liked about the scene. I did take some license with the shadows on the right. There were breaks in the trees and light streaming through them, but not exactly as I painted it. Really good questions though. I appreciate the comments!--Jan
