May 26, 2009 postings

This blog has been set up for everyone from our Plein Air seminar who wants to join the black and white painting a day challenge. The idea is that we can all use the practice of managing value. So for the next seven days post your daily painting and leave comments if you feel like it.

Alright, I've posted the first painting. It's a view from one of the streets in the Angel Hill district of Taylors Falls. I painted this scene in color on the second day of Marc Hanson's Plein Air painting seminar but wondered if I could do better on the placement and values. Decided to try it for my first entry. 1. Jan I think that it does read better here. This is a good process to do. If you have a study that you did on site in color but it doesn't feel right, strong enough or in some other way isn't quite a candidate to be enlarged, doing the image in black and white can sort out a lot of things. Very, very nice.
